International Offshore Team Association

        General Secretary: Marco Sala

International Offshore Team Association

The International Offshore Team Association (I.O.T.A.) was founded in 1987 by Walter Ragazzi and Giovanna Repossi to represent the interests of all teams competing in the U.I.M. Class 1 World Powerboat Championship and has Italian Edoardo Polli as its President.

IOTA’s responsibilities include the overall development of Class 1 as well as all aspects of racing and safety for competitors, negotiating on behalf of the teams with the governing bodies, organisers, boat and engine builders and sponsors.

Since 1992 IOTA has played an integral role in the management of the World Championship, introducing the new multi-event series and negotiating agreements with promoters to protect the team’s interests. IOTA is closely involved in looking at ways to develop the sport and to create even more spectacular races such as time trials (Pole Position) and shorter and inshore races.

IOTA is represented within the Offshore Commission by Edoardo Polli, a member of the World Offshore Championship Committee, presided over by Richard Ridout, who manages the sporting aspects of the Class 1 Championship. Since 1997, the U.I.M. has fully acknowledged IOTA’s active role in the World Championship sphere, giving it the responsibility for promoting the Championship.

In November1997, following the U.I.M.’s reconfirmation of the next three years of worldwide commercial and television rights, IOTA finalised an agreement with Offshore Sport Promotion (OSP), entrusting it with the promotion of the Championship for the same period.

IOTA’s board of directors are elected on a three year term and are;

President:                  Edoardo Polli
Counsellors:               Bjorn Rune Gjelsten, Khalfan Harib, Giberto Grassi
General Secretary:     Marco Sala

All teams racing in the World Championship are enrolled in IOTA
