Fujairah, UAE completes the ’98 calendar

The final piece of the jigsaw puzzle, the venue to complete the 1998 Class 1 calendar, was put in place today. Richard Ridout, managing director, Offshore Sport Promotion (OSP), announced that Round 6 of the U.I.M. Class 1 World Powerboat Championship will be held in Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates on Friday 30th October.

"I am very pleased to be able to finalise the ’98 calendar but even more delighted by the support and assistance I have received from Saeed Hareb and from within the sport in general to make this happen. I have already spoken to several drivers who are very excited by the prospect of a third race in the Emirates," commented Richard Ridout.

The Fujairah Grand Prix will be organised by the Fujairah Authorities, in co-operation and with the assistance of the Dubai International Marine Club and under the aegis of the UAE Marine Sports Federation.

Fujairah, one of the seven Emirates forming the United Arab Emirates, will be the fourth new venue this season to host a round of this prestigious Championship. Situated against a mountainous backdrop on the east coast of the UAE on the Arabian Sea, it offers a vivid contrast to the final two races of the season in Dubai in November.
